Nancy Shawver was the founder and principal of Nancy Shawver Consulting, a firm providing integrated communications solutions, writing and editing for traditional and digital media.
Now that the consulting business is on hiatus, this website and blog reflect a personal indulgence. I write about things that interest me, and no longer limit myself to topics that might appeal to potential clients. It’s purely an indulgence, an excuse to write.

Some background: Nancy is an experienced journalist, with more than 15 years experience as a writer, editor and leader in newspaper, newsweekly and magazine management. She is a pioneer in online and digital media, and as the vice president of electronic media for The Kansas City Star, developed early audio, fax and online/web services.
As a reporter, she specialized in health care, science, technology and business reporting. As an editor with American City Business Journals and The Star, she directed teams covering public affairs, including education, research and government agencies. She has a degree in journalism from The Ohio State University and continuing education credits from Simmons College, Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
She also worked for 13 years with Sprint Nextel Corp., leading a variety of initiatives to deliver transformational change to the organization, its processes and culture. In her many roles, from director to assistant vice president, she was seen as an agent of change and used her strong communications skills to deliver results.
Nancy served as a member of the corporate advisory board of the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Computing and Engineering (2004-2008), and a member of the executive board and advisory board of the Center for International Business Education and Research at the University of Kansas, (2001-2007).
She is a member of the Kansas City chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators, and a member of its board 2010-2011. She was a contributor to the KC IABC Technology Special Interest Group blog.
She also is a member of the Plaza Rotary, and a member of its board of directors 2011; she is an Ambassador of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.
Nancy also joined the SAGA group — Siblings are Great Advocates — a support group for people who have adult siblings with Down Syndrome.
