It’s one of my favorite quirky images, and I think it speaks about calmness and balance.
I’ve been struggling with balance lately as I think about using social media to promote my business, which really is me, and at the same time, avoiding sounding full of myself.
For example: I set up a business page on Facebook; I welcome comments and I hope people will find me and be interested in my services. But that’s unlikely, as I haven’t yet found a way to tell anyone about it. It seems rude to ask my friends to become my fans.
I’m also sensitive about contributing to the tweetstream. I send out links to my own site sparingly, even though I advise my clients to do so all the time.
I have a feeling that the way it works is the same as with anything else important. As soon as you focus on what’s really important (namely, others) then the self on center stage can evaporate.
