The Night Sky

The moon (photo credit: John Tracewell)

On a recent vacation break in Aspen, Colorado, I dragged my beloved outside to see the night sky. It had been a clear and beautiful day and I was hoping clouds had not moved in.

We walked a little way from our temporary abode, to the edge of a largely open area. There were no cars and few lights.

When I looked up, I felt like the sky was rushing down to enfold us. The array of stars was overwhelming and indecipherable, but somehow familiar. I felt myself shivering with excitement. My beloved braced me so I could look upward into the dizzying sky without losing balance and falling. Yes, it was that much to me.
